Weekend Breaks

As a society, we are becoming increasingly pushed to fit leisure breaks into our hectic lives. Also, with the recent financial downturn, many time-starved people are now looking for a cheaper way to get that much needed break away! As a result, the UK city weekend break has soared in popularity.

Types of Weekend Breaks
There is no such thing as the typical city hotel weekend break. For some, a weekend break away is a family time and an opportunity to get the extended family in one place for a special event. Others, and in particular busy professionals who cannot be away for the full traditional week or two week annual holiday, will opt instead to make the most of a short getaway to recharge the batteries.

Many people looking for a weekend away are doing so as a romantic or luxury break to spoil themselves, or their loved ones. However, there is no denying that financially things are tough at the moment. Prices of goods, in general, are on the increase and more families across Britain are feeling the pinch when it comes to purchasing luxuries such as holidays. Interestingly, however, the budget short break, especially the city hotel break, is growing dramatically in demand. Fortunately, budget breaks are becoming better and better value for money, allowing weekend breaks to be taken on a shoe string! Large chains in particular are offering excellent deals such as free nights and loyalty points for regular travellers.

Getting the Most from your City Hotel Weekend Break
Weekend breaks are an art form. To really get the most from your city break it is important to plan ahead and to think through the practicalities. Firstly, be realistic about location and timing. Driving for 8 hours across Britain on a Friday night after work is hardly going to be a good start to your relaxing break!

Secondly, consider visiting non-traditional locations. Some cities are seen (incorrectly!) as business centres with little to entertain recreational visitors. As such, accommodation over the weekend is likely to be cheaper. Don’t be put off by reputations; most cities have an absolute wealth of entertainment and attractions for all ages. Dig a little deeper; you may be pleasantly surprised. Cities such as Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham, for example, make perfect city break destinations.

Thirdly, if travelling in a group, book together. Many hotels will offer discounts for several rooms booked in one transaction. Even if you don’t get a discount, at least it is likely that you will all be located in the same area of the hotel making logistics like childcare and sharing items much easier!

Finally do your research; everything you need can be found online. Almost every city offers packages such as travel tickets or discounts at certain restaurants. By searching online in advance you may be able to save yourself a considerable amount of hard earned cash. Try asking the hotel if they have any suggestions about attractions in the vicinity of the hotel; chances are they’ll have all the local knowledge you need!

UK city weekend breaks are suitable for everyone, but especially the time-starved. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a family get together, a UK city weekend break is guaranteed to fit the bill.
